The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time, while the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, AC Milan and Real Madrid have also shown interest in the Netherlands international.


And according to talkSPORT citing reports in Holland, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to sign the Dutchman before Wednesday's transfer deadline.


According to the report, the deal is said to be worth around £28million.


Van der Wiel has also hinted that a move to the Premier League is close after revealing via Twitter that he was in London.


Possibly trying to damped speculation about his future, he later tweeted on Saturday: "We had a weekend off.. So im just in london to chill and watch a few games, nothing more."


Van der Wiel's agent, Hakim Slimani, earlier this year had revealed that the full-back could join Chelsea this summer.
